The concept of ecosystem services (ES) is in use by a large number of communities including forest decision makers. The purpose of this symposium is to collect experiences of applications of ES into forest decision making, in particular at the landscape scale, to provide an overview of approaches, methods, and techniques that are currently available for the practice of forest management. Stephen G. Boyce’s concept of Landscape Forestry has anticipated for more than 20 years the need to incorporate spatially ecological processes and functions with production indicators in decision making and forest management. This symposium is an opportunity to revisit Landscape Forestry through the impulse of the ES concept, analyzing how recent ES theory and practice affected the development of forest management methods and tools to address complex management problems and to find positive solutions involving multiple values and actors in forest landscapes.
