IUFRO LE 2017-14: Ecosystem Services and Landscape Ecology – congruent concepts or contradiction?

Ecosystem services (ES) are considered to be a holistic concept to assess the impact of the state of art and of changes in the environment on human health and well-being. Motivated by the idea that such a concept would make it easier to argue the value of nature in policy processes and spatial planning, it is still an item of discussion how far ES support the integration of landscape as a reference entity for ecological and social processes in environmental policies. The session seeks for presentations that discuss critically how scaling issues and social-ecological interactions could be better integrated in ES assessments and how these could be better communicated in planning and policy consulting.
